Abstract

658,372. Bottles; stoppers. BLUMAUER, E. Aug. 10, 1949, No. 20817. [Classes 125(i) and 125(iii)] A device for use on bottles for the preparation of sparkling wines &c. comprises a hollow fitting 3 tightly attachable to the neck of a bottle, e.g. by a split ring 2 and provided with an aperture 6 capable of being closed at will from outside by a removable element and from the inside by a valve 5 which is held against the aperture by internal pressure. The removable element may be a cup 7 adapted to receive the yeast dregs which settle during fermentation with the bottle inverted. The cup 7 is removed with the valve closed so that the internal pressure does not drop. A screw stopper engaging the valve 5 is used to open the valve. Otherwise the removable element may comprise a supply of liquid carbon dioxide or a closage device containing liqueur.
