Abstract

658,264. Hardened copper alloys. CHICAGO DEVELOPMENT CO. Feb. 21, 1948, No. 5204. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1939. [Classes 72 and 82(i)] Corrosion resistant alloys consisting of Cu, Mn and Ni the proportions of which elements are those of compositions lying within the shaded area of the drawing, are given a large range of mechanical properties by being subjected after casting to at least one cycle of heat treatment comprising a softening step of heating to a temperature of 500‹C to 900‹C and a hardening step of heating to a temperature of 350‹C- 450‹C. The use of alloys in the production of such articles as springs, tools, diaphragms, hardware, condenser tubes, tanks, pressure vessels, metal furniture, bearings, dies, moulds, nuts, bolts and screws is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also all alloys whose compositions are within the curved line of the Figure and such alloys may contain also about 1.5 per cent Ag, up to about 0.2 per cent B, up to about 1 per cent Si, up to about 1 per cent Be and up to 10 per cent Cr. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
