Abstract

A bond for a diamond abrasive wheel is constituted by a prefritted glass having a softening-point below 750 DEG C. and comprising 35-60 per cent by weight of boric oxide, 20-65 per cent of zinc oxide, lead oxide, or a mixture thereof, and not more than 10 per cent of silica. The zinc oxide may constitute 40-65 per cent and the lead oxide 20-45 per cent of the bond. The wheels are preferably made with a rim formed by diamonds bonded by the frit and comprising also an inert refractory glass as filler, and a centre comprising vitreous silica and refractory glass bonded by the frit.
