Abstract

657,007. Locks. PARKES & SONS, Ltd., J., FRYER, E. C., BUTTER, F. J., and ORDIDGE, E. F. Jan. 28, 1949, No. 2358. [Class 44] In a lock of the kind secured by a spring-loaded plunger pressed in by hand, a spring-loaded locking bolt is provided to retain the plunger in the inner position which is adapted to be withdrawn to release the plunger by means of a key lock. The lock, shown in sections at rightangles in Figs. 2 and 3 is applied to a window fastening and comprises a rose plate 21, a boss 10 secured thereto by a nut 22 and a sleeve 26 rotatable on the boss, having a handle 27 and a latch arm 28. The boss is formed with parallel axial bores 11, 13, for a barrel lock 12 and the sliding plunger 14 the later being adapted to engage in an opening 30 in the inturned flange 27 of the sleeve 26 which is thereby locked. In the inner position (shown) the locking bolt 34 moves under the action of its spring 35 to engage in a notch 33 and is withdrawn by a cam 37 on the end of the barrel lock to release the plunger 14. The flange 29 is cut away over a quadrant and co-operates with a fixed pin to limit the rotation of the handle. In another form the plunger carries a projection engaging in a circumferential slot in the boss in the unlocked position and in a notch extending from the slot in the locked position. The plunger is retained in the locked position by a spring-loaded cam plate pivoted on the end of a barrel lock so that it may be turned to release the plunger by means of the key. The cam plate spring is loaded for the next operation when the key is turned back to the initial position for withdrawal.
