Abstract

656,912. Tyre gaiters. RICH, C. G. Nov. 26, 1949, No. 31121/48. [Class 144 (ii)] A flexible tyre gaiter having headed groundengaging studs 21 secured to its tread portion 20 by their heads 22 conforms with the tyre periphery and has at least one radially arranged slot 25 extending outwardly along its flanks and transversely across its tread portion to divide the latter and provide for a degree of longitudinal flexibility. As shown, the gaiter comprises three spaced, arcuate, laminated sections 14, 15, 16, the flanks 24 of which are joined together by gusset plates 17 and extend to lie centrally between the tyre tread 11a and the wheel rim 12. The inner and outer laminations 23, 18, which may be sponge rubber and sheet spring steel respectively, are stuck together and eyelets 26 are provided in the flanks 24 of the end sections 14, 16 to receive securing straps 27, the studs 21 being conical and secured to the outer lamination 18.
