Abstract
656,721. Electrically - tripped switches; thermal switches IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Jan. 1, 1948, No. 61. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1946. [Class 38(v)] [Also in Group XIII]. A circuit-breaker is tripped by a thermal device operated by a fluid-containing capsule 5 in which the casing forms the electric heater for its contents (see Group XIII). A contact 7 is closed on to a fixed contact 8 by counter-clockwise rotation of a cam lever 9 which releases a slide member 3 from the position shown in Fig. 1 and permits movement of a contact arm 1 spring-biassed on to a fulcrum 2. Reverse rotation of lever 9 opens the contacts. Upon expansion of the element 5, a latch bar 4 with a fulcrum 10 compresses a spring 12 and the contact arm 1 is released to rock on its fulcrum, open the contacts, and come to rest on a part 3a of the slide member, from which position the lever 9 can be rotated to reset. The element 5 is connected at its ends in the circuit controlled by the contacts 7, 8 and may be shortcircuited after tripping by a shorting bar, Fig. 2 (not shown), operated directly by the expansion of the element, the bar 4 and part 11 being made of insulating material for this purpose.
