Abstract
<PICT:0656631/IV (a)/1> The apparatus claimed in parent Specification is modified for use in the drawing and relaxing of artificial yarns or filaments by having at least one idler roll stepped. In one embodiment, two idler rolls 23, 24 are stepped, along with their associated driving roll 25. In an example, polyethylene terephthalic yarn was passed from feed rolls over a pin at 80 DEG C. and a hot plate at 180 DEG C. to the larger diameter portions of rolls 23, 24, 25, then upwards and round another idler roll 26, across a hot plate, to loop round the portions of the rolls of smaller diameter. When carrying out "double drawing," the yarns or filaments may be passed first round the portions of small diameter.
