656,525. Cemented pile fabrics. BRINTONS, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1947, No. 27928. [Class 142 (iv) Apparatus for producing a cemented pile fabric comprises a roll carrying a backing material 5, a bath of adhesive 8, a roller 7 which transfers the adhesive to the backing, a mechanism 10 of the type described in Specification 624,883 which positions a row of tufts on the backing, electrodes 1, 2 supplied with high frequency current and which apply heat and pressure to each row of tufts, a take-up roll 12 which is rotated intermittently, an oven 9 and a winding drum 6 which receives the finished fabric. The oven 9 sets the adhesive between the rows of tufts and may be replaced by a heated cylinder. The adhesive remains fluid-like at normal room temperatures, remains flexible when heated, and has a high electrical power factor so that it may be set by the passage through it of a high frequency electric current. A suitable adhesive is polyvinyl chloride with a plasticizer such as tricresylphosphate. The electrodes may be built up of a .plurality of spring-loaded segments, which may be insulated from one another, and may have grooves in their contacting surfaces to accommodate the tufts and adhesives.
