[Class 56] In a tank furnace for the continuous manufacture of glass comprising a melting zone, one or more electrically-heated firing zones and a working zone, the passage of the molten glass from one zone to another is effected by way of conduits of a crosssection sufficiently small to ensure that the glass flow caused by the withdrawal of the finished glass will occur at a speed high enough to prevent any flow in the reverse direction, e.g. that due to convection currents. The zones may be on different levels as in Fig. 1 and the conduits 4, 5 to and from the firing zone 2 may be provided with regulators 12, 13. In Fig. 3 is shown a conduit which comprises a graphite tube. 23 sheathed with a sleeve 24 of refractory material.
