Abstract
656,086. Rotary cutters. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and HAZELTON, G. Jan. 8, 1949, No. 587. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group VII] A rotary cutter 1, Fig. 2, suitable for use in trimming edge faces of foreparts of shoe soles, has a plurality of teeth 3, each of which has a cutting edge 5 and a work-supporting face 11 to the rear of it, to prevent the teeth from cutting or digging too deeply into the sole. The face 11 engages the part of the edge face of the workpiece which has just been cut and hammers and smooths down the fibres of the material. The cutting-edges 5 and rear edges 7 may be at least substantially the same distance from the cutter axis, the part between being of less radius, or, if desired, the edges 7 of the teeth may be slightly farther from the axis than the edges 5. A recess 15 is formed between each pair of teeth 3 into which material cut off may pass. Fig. 4 shows a modified form of cutter wherein, instead of V-shaped projections between the teeth, rounded recesses 41 are provided. Both the V-shaped projections and the recesses 41 play a part when the cutter is being milled to shape from a blank, or during grinding. Specification 565,936, [Group VII], is referred to.
