Abstract
655,746. Controlling burners. ROBERTSHAW-FULTON CONTROLS CO. Nov. 2. 1948, No. 28464. Addition to 655,745. [Class 75 (i)] In a control and ignition system as described and claimed in the parent Specification wherein the fuel burning apparatus comprises main and pilot burners and said thermo-electric means is responsive to the presence or absence of a flame at the pilot burner, the flame failure valve means controls the fuel supply to both the main and pilot burners, and the reset means is adapted during the resetting operation to move a closure member to a position in which it interrupts the fuel supply to the main burner only. The burner apparatus comprising a main burner 12 and a pilot burner 14 is ignited by pressing a push button 72 to energize an electric igniter 52, and to unseat a valve member 34 to allow. gas to pass through a conduit 53 to the pilot burner 14, whilst closing by a valve member 50 the passage 32 leading to the main burner supply pipe 16. The push button 72 is released when the flame at the pilot burner 14 has heated a thermocouple 46 and has energized an electromagnet 42 sufficiently to retain an armature 40, so that the valve member 34 is maintained in an open position whilst the valve member 50 is unseated to allow fuel to the pipe 16. A snap or toggle switch 84 disposed in the circuit connecting the thermocouple 46 with the electromagnet 42 is adapted to be closed just prior to the opening by manual operation of a cut off valve 18, controlling the supply to the main burner 12 by the engagement of a cam 82 on the operating knob 80 of the device 18 with the operating arm 84 of the switch 86. The reverse rotation of the knob 80 opens the switch 86 prior to the complete closure of the shut off valve.
