Abstract
655,691. Glass. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI RESZVENYTARSASAG. Aug. 17, 1948, No. 21692. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1942. Drawings to Specification. [Class 56] [Also in Group XLa] In the making of an airtight joint between the component parts of glass vessels, e.g. electronic tubes or glass bricks, by means of a glass "solder" melting at a temperature lower than the softening points' of the glass parts, the solder is first fused on to the glass parts and the glass parts are brought together after they have been reheated sufficiently to re-melt the " solder " whereupon the vessel is evacuated, the external pressure holding the parts together during the sealing operation. In the case of electronic tubes the electrode system is not mounted until after the " solder " has been initially fused on to the component glass parts. The " solder " may consists of 3 per cent SiO 2 , 84 per cent PbO, 13 per cent B 2 O 3 (melting point about 420‹C); ZnO, P 2 O 5 . As 2 O 3 , or Sb 2 O 3 may be added to reduce the coefficient of thermal expansion. This " solder may be pulverised and suspended in a medium, e.g. alcohol, and the suspension applied by dipping or spraying; after evaporation of the alcohol the residual glass powder is fused on.
