Abstract

799,381. Glass manufacture. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. April 5, 1956 [April 8, 1955], No. 10418/56. Class 56. A sleeve-like element for providing a pore hole seal for a multiple glazed unit comprising two spaced sheets of glass sealed at their edges to enclose a chamber, has an outer periphery conforming to the shape of a tapered pore opening 15 in one of the glass sheets 10, to which it is adhered by a low fusion point glass 27, and a cylindrical opening 23 axially aligned therein, the thickness of the walls of the element being greatest at the end 25 adjacent the atmosphere so as to receive glass or metal solder 28 and contain heat from the solder. The element 22 preferably comprises an inverted frustum shape conforming to a conically tapered pore hole 15. A suitable low fusion glass 27 to bond an element of 4750 Nickel-iron alloy to limesoda-silica glass is made up of by percentage weight PbO 68 ; B 2 O 3 14 ; SiO 2 14, and Al 2 O 3 4, this glass having a melting point of about 931‹F. Specifications 734,922, 735,207, 735,926 and 735,930 are referred to.
