Abstract
655,255. Storing pipes in derricks. STANDARD OIL DEVELOPMENT CO. June 18, 1947, No. 16147. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1946. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 17, 1948.] [Class 85] A carriage A is mounted for movement on a powerdriven screw thread 24 positioned at one side of a derrick, and on an arm 34 of this carriage are pins 35 between which stands of pipe are received and held as by electromagnets 37. The carriage is moved over to one side of the derrick to position the stands of pipe in spaces 45 in a fixed arm 401 of a racking assembly B. Subsequent stands of pipe are positioned between pins 44 on vertically swingable rods. An auxiliary pipe elevator C is provided to move the stands into the space on the arm 34, whilst the upper and lower ends of each are steadied during the making and breaking of the joints and during subsequent movement to the storage position by assemblies O and E. Specifications 650,814 and 655,256, [Group XXII], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subject-matter of Specifications 650,814 and 655,256, [Group XXII]. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
