Abstract

655,240. Sieves. WARD, F. April 20, 1949, No. 10529. [Class 117] [Also in Group I] A sieve has a downwardly slightly tapering cylindrical frame 10, 21 formed with an inwardly projecting ridge 17 of near semicircular section which merges downwardly by a reverse curvature 18 with the conical frame wall 10 and upwardly by a reverse curvature into an annular groove 19 forming a seating for a removable sieve bottom 24, the upper edge 20 of said groove projecting inwardly and then passing into a reverse curved or coned portion to come back to and merge with the conical formation 21. The shaping is effected by swaging inwardly so that the exterior of the groove 19 is aligned with the conical wall 10, 21. Supporting wires 25 arranged below the sieve bottom 24 may be segmental as shown or in chord formation, the ends 27 passing out through the frame wall and extending upwardly and/or downwardly to serve as stays. The ridge 17 may be discontinued in places to provide access to the underside of the rim of the sieve bottom for removal purposes. The sieve bottom 24 may comprise a gauze having its periphery rolled around a wire ring and soldered thereto by moving it round in a bath of solder.
