Abstract
655,154. Thermal regenerators &c. JANTSCH, E. Jan. 4, 1947, No. 329. [Class 64(i)] In a thermal regenerator or other heat exchanger in which superposed, angularly related courses of bricks define gas or liquid passages, each brick has a tapered portion 18 and a flat horizontal bearing portion 17 arranged lengthwise of each upper and lower edge, each tapered portion extending equidistantly above and below each bearing portion on the same edge of the brick. In the form shown each upper and lower edge has two end bearing surfaces 17 each half as long as the brick is wide. In another form the bottom edge is like that shown, but the top edge has a central bearing surface between two tapered portions. Top and bottom edges may each have a plurality of bearing portions and a plurality of tapered portions, the bearing portions of one edge being opposite or staggered relatively to those of the other edge. The surfaces of the tapering portions may be concave. The bricks in the bottom course and boundary rows may be halves of the bricks shown, with flat bottom and outside vertical surfaces respectively. The bricks in the top course may be tapered throughout their upper edges.
