Abstract

654,806. Umbrellas. FROST, S. M., and KENDALL & SONS, Ltd. Nov. 20, 1948. No. 30216. [Class 134] An umbrella having a flexible bangle 5 for supporting it from the wrist, has means whereby the bangle can be retracted into the stick when not in use. A tubular metal portion 3 of the stick carries a tension spring 10 anchored thereto by a cross pin 10a, one end of the bangle 5 being looped through an eye 9 of the spring 10 and the free ends being glued into a finger knob 8 which limits the inward movement. In use the bangle is withdrawn by pulling the knob 8 away from the handle 1, outward movement being limited by a stop pin 13 which engages the looped end to take the weight of the umbrella. The invention is especially applicable to umbrellas having tubular telescopic sticks and folding or telescopic ribs, Fig. 1, (not shown).
