Abstract
A method of varnishing or impregnating electrical windings, such as windings of rotors or armatures, with insulating varnish which is after the impregnation substantially free from solvent, said varnish having before the completion of the impregnation a varnish base and a solvent, which includes heating the article to be varnished to a temperature at least high enough to evaporate solvent from the varnish, contacting the heated article with said varnish, removing the article and then baking it, and wherein the contact of the article with the varnish is terminated before the latter has cooled to below a temperature at which solvent would not be evaporated. The article may be rotated in contact with the varnish and/or during the baking, and may be rotated slowly through the varnish and after removal from the varnish and before baking, or while it is being heated before the application of the varnish. The varnish may comprise a straight or modified phenol-formaldehyde resin with petroleum naphtha as solvent. Specification 584,445, is referred to.
