[Class 29] An evaporator for a continuous cycle absorption refrigerating system comprises horizontally disposed concentric tubular members a, b the former being finned, the annular space between which contains refrigerant distributing means, liquid refrigerant and inert gas entering at the top, the gaseous mixture leaving at the bottom and the inner tubular member b being adapted to contain ice-making containers. The liquid refrigerant distributing means may be plates c which the refrigerant traverses in succession or may comprise a horizontal trough in the upper part of the evaporator beneath which the evaporator is filled with small glass balls, metallic fragments, metal rings, porous or vitreous materials or the like. The member b may be open or closed at one end or closed permanently at one end and by a door at the other end.
