Abstract

652,494. Knot or seal protectors. GERRARD INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Aug. 18, 1948, No. 21838 and 24824. [Class 146 (ii)] In a package fastening a tie is enclosed by a sleeve 1 of linen-backed paper or fibre, plastic or other strong, pliable and weatherproof thin sheet material secured to the package by adhesive or sealing wax. The sleeve is made by binding the material without creasing it and securing the two layers together by thread 2, wire staples, tacks &c. leaving a flap 5 having in it one or more holes 6 with serrated edges to which sealing wax is applied. The sleeve may be preformed and threaded onto the band 3 of the package before the tie is made or one side of the folded material may be slipped under the completed knot before fastening to the other side. Adhesive, e.g. dextrine, may be used to secure both the two thicknesses of the flap together and the flap to the package, the latter connection being either an alternative or in addition to the sealing wax. The device may be used as a label or may incorporate an envelope by one layer of the flap 5 being extended and bent back on itself.
