Abstract

652,413. Extrusion machines. LIPSCOMB, R., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Jan. 14, 1948, No. 1141. [Class 87 (ii)] In a machine for extruding plastic material in the form of a tube, the outer die 13 and the central core die or point nose 6 are formed with frusto-conical or frusto-pyramidal surfaces which abut against mating surfaces formed on a support 10 which is rigidly secured to the rest of the machine, the support 10 being in the form of concentric hollow cylinders joined towards one end by a web provided with holes 15 for the passage of plastic material. The dies 6, 13 are thus accurately located with respect to each other. The die 13 may be held in place by a screw cap or bolts 12 passing through lugs in a cap 11 or in the die itself. The core die 6 has a stem passing through a hole in the support 10 and is secured by a nut 9, the outer surface of which is shaped to merge smoothly with the support. Passages 8, 7 are provided for the passage of fluid into the extruded tube to assist in maintaining its shape. A strainer 3 is provided; alternatively the holes 15 may be sufficiently small and numerous to render a strainer unnecessary.
