Abstract
Aminodiols of the general formula <FORM:0652277/IV (b)/1> (wherein R3 represents hydrogen or an alkyl radical of not more than 4 carbon atoms, and R4 and R5 are the same or different and represent hydrogen, halogen, or alkyl or alkoxy radicals of not more than 4 carbon atoms) are manufactured by hydrolysing the corresponding triacylated compounds with an acidic or alkaline hydrolytic agent until all three acyl groups have been removed. The hydrolysis is preferably effected by means of aqueous mineral acid, whereby the product is obtained as a salt of the acid and may be isolated in this form or neutralized and isolated as the free base. The products exist as structural (regular and pseudo) and optical isomers. Examples describe the hydrolysis, with dilute hydrohalic acids, of the triacetyl derivatives of dl-#Y- and dl - reg. - 1 - p - nitrophenyl-, dl - #Y - 1 - o - methyl - p - nitrophenyl-, dl - #Y - 1 - m - methoxy - p - nitrophenyl-, dl - reg. - 1 - (21 - nitro - 41 : 51-dimethylphenyl)- and 1 - (21 - chloro - 51 - nitrophenyl) - 2 - aminopropane - 1 : 3-diol and of dl-#Y-2 - amino - 3 - p - nitrophenylbutane - 1 : 3 - diol.
