Abstract

The invention comprises 2 : 7-diamino-9-p-aminophenylphenanthridine and its quaternary salts except when prepared by the process of Specification 635,152. The product may be obtained by reduction of the corresponding trinitro-compound, acylating or otherwise protecting the amino groups, quaternating, and hydrolysing. An example is given of the method in which the trinitro compound is reduced, acetylated quaternated with methyl sulphate, and hydrolysed. Specifications 372,859, 511,353, 578,226 and 587,673 also are referred to.
