[Class 74 (ii)] In making a circular knitted stocking of synthetic yarn having the capability of retaining shrinkage, the top is formed of such yarn wherein the major portion of the shrinkage has already occurred while the shrinkage of the leg part of the stocking is effected after knitting. The top or welt may thus be knitted of smaller diameter than would otherwise have been necessary. The remainder of the stocking is reduced to its correct form in a subsequent shrinking operation, when any residual shrinkage in the pre-shrunk yarn will also occur. Examples of yarns are said to be those formed from nylon, the resins known under the Registered Trade Marks "Saran" and "Vinyon" and cellulose acetate..
