Abstract
Apparatus for applying adhesive to the base of articles passing along a roller conveyer comprises the roller conveyer, an adhesive containing tank below the conveyer, an applicator movable from below the adhesive level in the tank to an operative position between two rollers, and means actuated by movement of an article along the conveyer so to operate the applicator. Referring to the drawings, the conveyer comprises rollers 11 of normal diameter and a series of shafts 12 of less diameter but carrying collars 13 of the same diameter as roller 11. Mounted beneath the conveyer is a tank 14 carrying adhesive 32. Journalled on the frame 10 is a pair of mechanisms 16 each comprising bifurcated arms 17 carrying a pair of slideways 19 with slides 20 <PICT:0651896/III/1> <PICT:0651896/III/2> and 21 having journalled therein lower feed roll 25 and upper applying roll 26, the surface of the upper roll being cut away diagonally. Springs urge slides 20 and 21 and hence rolls 25 and 26 upwards. The arm 15 is pivoted by a box A passing along the conveyer rollers and forcing wheel 50 upwards, thus rocking arm 45 and hence arm 17 via cable 54 and so applying dabs of adhesive to the box.
