Abstract

In making tubular paper &c., receptacles in which a sheet is wrapped round a mandrel and secured at its longitudinal margin by an adhesive strip e.g. as described in Specification 364,614, [Group XVII], the web W with its adhesive surface <PICT:0364641/III/1> underneath, is drawn from the roll along a recess 145, as shown in the Figure, in a plate 132 leading to a guide-rail 129 and detachably carrying beneath it the liquid trough 138 in which the liquid applying brush 148 is resiliently mounted. The brush projects through an opening 144 in the plate 132 and is supplied with liquid by absorbent material 151 arranged contiguous to the brush and the web is maintained in a recess 145 and in contact with the brush by a yielding presser 146 and by a roller 152 carried in a pivoted arm 153; ears 155 are provided on the arm 153, one to engage the plate 132 and limit the movement of the roller towards the brush and the other to support the roller clear of the guide-rail 129 when the roller is moved out of engagement with the web. The trough may be heated and the liquid therein is maintained at a constant level from an airtight supply vessel.
