Abstract
418,722. Compound sheet materials ; coating webs. ROWBOTHAM & CO., Ltd., T., ROWBOTHAM, SIR T., and SHAW, W., Brewery Street, Stockport, Cheshire. Feb. 27, 1934, No. 6275. [Class 140.] Rolls 1, 2 of paper, cardboard, fabric, &c. to be united are supported by angularly and axially adjustable bearings 5, 17, and the material from roll 1 is passed through an adjustable three-rod tension device 9, over a coating roll 12 adjustable to and from a roll 11 rotating in a trough 10 of bitumen, rubber solution, varnish &c. round a guide roller 14 mounted on arms 15 rotatable about a pivot P to vary the arc of contact of the material with the roll 12, and is united with the material from roll 2 between feed rolls 19, the compound material being further pressed between rubber and metal rolls 20, 21 and metal calenders 22, 23 and wound into a roll 3 by frictional contact with rolls 24, 25. The rolls 11, 12 and 19-25 are driven at surface speeds which are identical or may vary slightly to keep the material under tension. A rod 30 mounted on pivotal arms 31 may be provided to lift the material clear of the coating roll 12 when desired. The tank 10, coating rolls 11, 12, and pressure rolls 21-23 may be heated. The roll 12 is made adjustable by mounting in eccentric bearings which are turned by hand-operated, screw-threaded spindles 27 engaging nuts on arms 29. The adhesive may contain asbestos fibres.
