Abstract

A composite calcium sulphate-zinc sulphide pigment is prepared by reacting zinc sulphate and calcium hydrosulphide and calcining the product, air being admitted to the calcining furnace in a controlled manner so as to eliminate calcium sulphide and yet keep the formation of zinc oxide at a minimum. The calcined product may be quenched with water to form a slurry and sulphuric or other mineral acid added until the slurry reacts acid to indicating means preferably methyl orange.
