Abstract

651,672. Sheet-metal joints ; riveted joints. HAWLEY, J. E. July 22, 1948, No. 19580. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group X] A window or other frame is provided externally with angled jointing members having at their ends tongues which are inserted through holes in adjacent mitred ends of the frame components. The frame parts may be of Z-section and the holes a<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 3, be formed in the middle web adjacent the mitred ends. The jointing member may comprise a rightangled part c with each end c<SP>1</SP> bent inwardly to form tongues and these are passed through the holes a<SP>2</SP> and bent down towards the mitre. In a modification the holes a<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 4, are at an angle and the tongues c<SP>1</SP> are so short that they do not project far enough to be bent down. In this case the tongues may be upset by riveting. The joint may be strengthened by rivets. The jointing members may be cut from an extruded bar of the required section or stamped out.
