'[Class 60] A knife-sharpening device, for knives used for severing webs of paper, film, foil &c. and particularly for paper-cutting knives of wrapping machines for sweets and other articles, of the kind in which the knife is manually held on a support and pressed into engagement with a hone or the like is characterized in that the hone has its operative surface in a given plane transverse to the general plane of the knife support, the hone being arranged for movement in any direction in the given plane. A hone 11 is mounted in a block 12 and held in position by a clamping strip 13 and screws 14. A rod 16 passes through the block 12 and is secured at each end to a guide 17 extending lengthwise of the hone 11 and arranged to slide in a pair of slideways 18 arranged above and below the hone 11 and mounted on a frame 19 secured in an upright position to a bracket 21 itself secured to a bench 22. A support 23 for the knife 33 is carried on a slide member 24 mounted for adjustment in an arcuate slideway 26 formed in a bracket 27 secured to the bracket 21; pairs of rollers 28 rotatably mounted in the bracket 27 act as the top surface of the slideway 26. The radius of the slideway 26 is struck from an axis lying coincident with the edge of the knife-support 23 lying adjacent the plane of movement of the hone 11. A screw 29 arranged in engagement with a threaded hole 31 in the bracket 27 engages one of a series of corresponding recesses 32 formed in the slide member 24 to lock the knife-support in any adjustable position. The hone may be mechanically operated, e.g. by cam or eccentric.
