Abstract
650,735. Rolling. COLD METAL PRODUCTS CO. Sept. 2, 1947, No. 24190. Convention date, May 2. [Class 83 (iv)] Cold rolling.-Metal strip is cold rolled between idle rolls of small diameter with larger diameter, driven, backing-up rolls with their axes in the same vertical plane. Tension is applied to the strip to supply a considerable portion of the power for driving the rolls. The supply reel 5 is provided with electrical drive through reducing gearing 54 and the control is such that the motor 53 can be used as a generator to supply electrical braking. On each side of the working-rolls 8, 9 wooden guides 51, 52 are mounted and the strip passes over water-cooled drums 47, 49 to the take up reel 7 with similar drive to that of the reel 5. The backing-up rolls 10, 11 have individual motors 30, 31 driving through wobblers. The pass is adjusted by wedges 21 and screws 22 geared either to a hand wheel 23 or a motor 26. After the final pass the coil may be removed by a carriage 60 running on transverse rails 61. U.S.A. Specification 2,169,711 is referred to. Lubricating work.-Splash guards 62 are provided at each end of the mill.
