Abstract
650,711. Rails. BURKHARDT, G. R. April 9, 1945, No. 8737. Convention date, April 9, 1942. [Class 104 (ii)] A railway rail has a web 2 with curved sides so that it increases in width towards the junctions with the head fillets 4 and the base fillets 5, the respective radii of which, RHF, RBF. are made equal to the widths U, V of the web at the respective junction. The rail head 1 is such that the inscribed circle D touching the fillets and rail top forms 75 per cent of the area of the head; the width CF of the rail head at the fishing level is 2¢ times the width U of the web at the junction with the fillets 4. The construction reduces the maximum stress present in the fillet. The rail base width is at least twice the width of the rail head.
