632,978. Rail sections. BURKHARDT, G. R. July 4, 1947, No. 17693. Convention date, April 10, 1940. [Class 104 (ii)] A flange rail has stiffening ribs 2 in the head fillets, arranged alternately on opposite sides of the web W so as to maintain a uniform thickness of the web ; stiffening ribs 3 may similarly be provided at the base fillets and the ribs 3 may extend up to the neutral axis of the rail and the cross-sectional area of the head H is not more than one-third greater than the area of the circle I inscribed in the head. The width of the head H is greater than the depth of the head but less than one and three-eighths times. The head width is also less than half the width of the base B which is less than the height of the rail. The thickness of the web is not less than one fourth the width of the head but is less than twice the radii of the fillets F, F<SP>1</SP> at the head and base. The fishing angles are between 13 and 15 degrees. The centre of twist lies below the centres of the base fillets. The sides of the head slope upwards towards the centre line of the rail at an angle of 7 degrees to the vertical.
