Abstract

650,199. Milking equipment. LONDEX, Ltd., and NcNEIL, S. C. Sept. 28, 1948, No. 25285. [Class 84] A means for detecting milk flow in milking equipment comprises a source of current and a current responsive detecting means connected in series with at least two electrodes held in the milk flow so that current flows and energizes the detecting means when the milk flows. Two electrodes 6 and 7, fitted in an insulating tube between the teat cup and the milk receiving vessel, are connected by conductors 9, 10 to the terminals 55, 56 of the detecting apparatus, Fig. 3. A tapping 50 on a transformer 33 feeds a telephone "normal closed type relay 53 through a full wave rectifier 52. The relay is energized when milk flows between the electrodes 6, 7 and the contact 43 in the signalling circuit is opened. Cessation of milk flow de-energizes the relay 53 and closes contact 43 which operates a lamp 45 and/ or a buzzer 48. Contact 43 may be arranged to stop the pulsator. The transformer 33 and rectifier 52 may be replaced by a DC supply, e.g. from a battery.
