Abstract
649,819. Pneumatic tyres. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. March 16, 1949, No. 7175. Convention date, May 12, 1948. [Class 144 (ii)] A tyre cover 1 is formed of nylon cord plies anchored to inextensible bead elements 2, 3, the cord parts in the crown region 4 of the tyre being disposed at an angle of 26-31 degrees to the circumferential centre line and being less elastic than the cord parts in the side wall regions 5, 6. The particular angular disposition and physical properties of the cords are obtained by the conventional shaping of the tyre from a flat band A in which the nylon plies have an original cord angle of 55¢-57¢ degrees, the cord parts in the crown region receiving a permanent elongation which reduces their elasticity under inflation stresses, and the cord parts in the side wall regions being crowded together.
