Abstract

649,738. Television receivers. SCOPHONYBAIRD, Ltd. June 9, 1948, No. 15553. [Class 40 (iii)] In order to prevent excessive brilliance of the presentation on the screen of the cathoderay tube 12 of a television receiver, a limiting device 18 is so connected in the grid-cathode circuit of the cathode-ray tube as to prevent the potential of the cathode of tube 12 with respect to that of the control grid falling below a predetermined positive value. The signals derived from the video amplifier 10 are applied via the circuit 13, 14 to the cathode of the tube 12, the grid of which is maintained at a constant adjustable potential by means of the tapping on the potentiometer 16 which is byepassed to earth by the condenser 19. The diode 18 prevents the potential at the anode of valve 10 from falling below the potential of the grid of tube 12, whereby, since a steady potential is produced across the resistor 13 owing to the current flowing in the cathoderay tube, the potential of the cathode is not allowed to fall below a predetermined positive value with respect to that of the grid.
