771,454. Television. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. June 14,1954, No. 17479/54. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XL (c)] In an arrangement for preventing damage to the screen of a television receiver cathode-ray tube V1 (see Group XL (c)) the grid of the tube is connected to a point X on a network including pentode V4 and 250 v. positive and negative D.C. voltage supplies B1 and B2 such that V4 is conductive under normal operating conditions but is cut-off if either the line or frame timebase fails, thereby biasing off the cathoderay beam. In such an arrangement some degree of automatic black level or brightness control may be obtained by deriving the H.T. of V4 from a video-sensitive source, e.g. the screen of video valve V2.
