Abstract

691,805. Television. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BIGGS, A. J. Nov. 8, 1951 [Dec. 18, 1950], No. 30782/50. Class 40 (iii). In a cathode-ray tube television receiver in which the fly-back stroke E, Fig. 1b, ends after the end of the corresponding line synchronizing pulse D, Fig. 1a, a voltage is derived during the fly-back stroke and applied to the cathode-ray tube so as to prevent the occurrence of any spurious elements in the picture due to overshoot in the trailing edge of the synchronizing pulse. As shown in Fig. 2, the video amplifier 4 feeds the cathode of the cathode-ray tube 5 and also feeds a separator circuit 8 to derive the line synchronizing pulses D to control the line time base 9. The grid of the cathode-ray tube receives bias from a source 7 and is also connected through a resistance 12 of the order of one megohm so as to receive the potential developed across deflector coils 11. During the scanning stroke I the developed voltage is small but during the fly-back stroke E the voltage reverses in polarity and becomes of sufficient magnitude to suppress the effect of any overshoot in the trailing edge of the synchronizing pulse. In receivers employing electrostatic deflection such a voltage may be derived by differentiation of the output of the line time base.
