[Class 83 (ii)] A washer, applied to a bolt by slipping over the threads on to a reduced neck a, is rendered captive by forcing the assembly, with the shank of the bolt leading, through a conical die c by pressure applied to the head of the bolt. Finally, the washer may be notched and flatted at b<SP>1</SP> to render the bolt particularly suitable for use with hose pipe clips.
