Abstract
648,779. Powder metallurgy. PRIMAVESI, D. Dec. 29, 1947, No. 34529. Convention date, May 16, 1946. [Class 83 (iv)] In making a body of sintered metal powder containing a solid insert, the powder compact is formed with a hole to receive the insert which is inserted and packed in with a metal powder which melts at the ordinary sintering temperature of the compact, which is then sintered. In one example, iron powder is pressed into the form of a knob with a hole to receive a bolt and the space around the bolt is filled in with cast iron powder containing 4 per cent carbon. The body is then sintered at 1250 ‹ C. Alternatively the bolt is packed in with a mixture of 70 per cent iron powder and 30 per cent copper powder and the body sintered at 1050‹ C. After repressing in a direction at right angles to the. original compacting, the body is again sintered at 1200‹ C. In another example a pressing for a lock casing consisting of a mixture of copper and iron powder had an aperture to receive a copper nut which was packed in with a bronze powder and the whole sintered at 950‹ C.
