Abstract

648,602. Roll holders. MARATHON CORPORATION. Jan. 9, 1948, No. 738. Convention date, May 7, 1947. [Class 18] A holder for a roll of material comprises a base 11 and a cover 13 provided at one end with circular bearing parts 21, 17 respectively which when the cover is closed cooperate with each other to form a bearing for the core supporting the roll, one of the bearing parts being provided with a resilient strip 25 to resiliently journal the core of the roll. Both ends of the holder may be provided with co-operating bearing parts 17, 21 or the core of the roll may be journalled on a boss at one end. One end of the core is provided with a flanged sleeve 30 which engages between the bearing parts and deflects the resilient strip 25 when the holder is closed so that the strip conforms to the shape of the sleeve and prevents undue rotation. Locking members 32, 33 are provided on the cover and engage the base when the cover is closed. The edge of the cover may be serrated to provide an edge for severing the material from the roll.
