Abstract
648,556. Actuation of switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and DUCKETT, G. C. Sept. 10, 1948, No. 23857. [Class38(v)] In an arrangement ment for cutting off the supply to a cable when the pressure of fluid insulation therein falls below a safe value, due e.g. to damage to the cable, two pressureoperated micro-swit'ches 2, 3 are arranged in a chamber 6 connected through an orifice (not shown) to a source 22 of fluid (e.g. air) under pressure, the output means 13 of the switches being connected, e.g. by a plug and socket, to the conductors of the cable which is also supplied with fluid through the output means from the chamber 6. The switches 2, 3 are operable by a spring- pressed diaphragm 25 connected to an operating-bridge 33 by rods 29, 35 and a ring 34. The input leads are fed into a chamber 8 and connected by terminals 16 to the switches 2, 3, the other terminals of which are connected by terminals 19 to the sockets in the output means 13. The switches are closed when the fluid pressure is sufficient but open to disconnect the cable if the pressure drops. The chamber 6 has a flameproof cover 5 .
