Abstract

Porous concrete products, particularly cross-moved artificial stone blocks of porous concrete are produced by adding to slate ashes and lime or to slate ashes and a material containing lime in excess, sugar in sufficient amount that an acceleration of the reaction between the ashes and the lime-containing material is attained. Porosity may be produced by the addition of aluminium powder. The best blocks are obtained by arranging that the direction in which the stone-forming mass moves during gas formation is in the horizontal direction with respect to the stone block positioned in the wall. In an example 4 kgs. of a mixture of burnt lime and slate ashes so chosen that the elements present were in the proportion required for neutral monocalcium silicate were finely ground and then mixed with 2.10 to 2.70 grams of aluminium powder and 2.0 grams of sugar. 1.12 litres of water was added and the mix poured into a mould in which it set in 15 minutes.
