Abstract

648,387. Compound paper board; cutting- machines. COOK & SON, Ltd., M., WARBEY, B. F., and WARBEY, H. S. July 8,1947, No. 18075. [Classes 31 (i), 96 and 140] A multiple-layer corrugated paper block having parallel lines of intermittent slits, along which it can be broken into packing pads, is made by feeding single or double-faced corrugated sheets, as by rolls 1, between a series of opposed rotary knives 3 and 4 arranged in parallel pairs across the direction of feed, one or both knives of each pair being notched. The sheets are then gummed between the lines of slits-preferably on a faced side-by feeding them, as by rolls 2, between a pressure roll 14 and a transfer roll 13 receiving adhesive, e.g. sodium silicate, from a roll 11, adhesive being kept from the slits by wipers 15. The sheets are finally stacked at 18 to form a block. According to the Provisional Specification the sheets may be passed to the knives and gumming rolls by triple feed rolls.
