Abstract

648,218. Combined saddles and pillion seats for motor-cycles. FERIDAX, Ltd., and FERRIDAY, J. R. Dec. 22, 1948, No. 32996. [Class 136 (iii) ] A combined saddle and pillion seat for a motor-cycle comprises a sponge rubber pad having a protective skin 18 preferably of rubber latex and a base 7 of rigid or semi-rigid sheet material bonded to its underside, a waisted junction 3 between the saddle 1 and seat 2 forming knee grips 4 for the pillion rider, a rigid underframe 8 consisting of a pair of angle sections extending longitudinally of the saddle 1 and seat 2 and secured to the underside of the base by bolts 10 and including a mudguard bracket 9 arranged in a recess 15 in the underside of the seat 2 and secured to a rear part of the underframe and attachment means 13 at the forward end of the underframe for connecting it to the motor-cycle. The base 7 may be made of fibre, canvas or thermo-setting material and the underside of the saddle and seat is provided with a boundary bead 5 forming a shallow recess in which the base 7 is bonded.
