Abstract

648,032. Machinery guards. HOUNSELL (ENGINEERS), Ltd., J., and FORREST, G. S. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29152. [Class 80(iv)] [Also in Group II] An open-topped tiltable mixing pan 10 whose mixing blades are carried by a horizontal shaft 18 coaxial with the tilting trunnion bearings 11 is provided with a guard in the form of a grid 21. The grid is carried by a horizontal spindle 22 mounted in bearings fixed to the frame 12 and on the spindle are secured a cam 24 and, at each end, a chain sprocket driving similar sprockets on a spindle 30. The cam operates a trip switch 20 arranged to stop the electric motor driving the shaft 18 upon lifting of the horizontal grid 21. A slidable rack 32 meshes with a gear 31 on the spindle 30 and carries a roller 33 cooperating with a cam track 34 fixed to the side of the pan 10. Upon tilting of the pan -by means of a handwheel 13, worm 14, worm-wheel 15, pinion 16 and toothed sector 17-to empty its contents, the rack 32 is caused at first to move inwardly, thus raising the grid and tripping the switch 20, and then to return towards its original position. In the fully tilted position of the pan the drive motor may be restarted to complete the discharge of the contents.
