Abstract

647,824. Clamps. GLITSCH, H. C., and GLITSCH, F. W. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2486. [Class 44] [Also in Group XII] Floor and wall plates are clamped in position in refining towers by fasteners 15 comprising a C shaped hook 41 which is inserted through a slot 38 in a clamping plate 35 between adjacent edges of floor plates 13 and through a slot in a supporting beam 14, and a wedge 50 is received in a slot 47 formed by the outwardly bent walls 46 of the hook above the clamping plate. To increase frictional engagement a dimple 52 may be formed on the inner faces of walls 46. The wedge may be made of two leaves which may be bent outwardly at their reduced ends 53 to prevent its displacement. For positions not allowing the wedge to be longitudinally disposed, an inverted U channel for receiving the wedge may be welded to the shank of the hook at an appropriate angle. Inclined downcomers between the floors include a deflector plate 60 secured by similar fasteners 62 to a beam 56 and weir angle bars at the top and bottom of the downcomers are similarly secured, a lower flange of the bars replacing the clamping plate 35.
