Abstract
647,692. Automatic speed control systems. CREED & CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1948, No. 25135. [Class 38 (iv)] In a series-wound commutator type electric motor adapted to be speed-controlled by centrifugally-operated contacts 3 in the power supply to the motor, an arc-prevention device is provided which comprises a potential dividing network 4, 5 connected across the field windings 1 and armature 2. Upon an opening of the contacts 3 the field shunting circuit 4 prevents the induction of large potentials in the field windings 1 by limiting the rate at which the field magnetic flux falls. Also the flux is prevented from falling to zero owing to the path via field windings 1, conductor 8, and resistance 5.
