Abstract
647,458. Cutting slates. TUBELA ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and BOURNE, F. W. Dec. 21 1948, No. 32957. [Class 124] A tool for cutting brittle or friable material comprises a handle and a blade having a head portion with an arcuate slot, the surfaces forming the sides of the slot having a width equal to at least the thickness of the blade and at least the concave surface of the slot having sharp edges. As shown, the tool has a head A having an arcuate slot A<SP>2</SP> of constant width but which may be wider at the open end A<SP>3</SP>. The concave edge A<SP>4</SP> has sharp edges and the concave edge A<SP>6</SP> may be bent out of the plane of the head A which may taper along the lines 3-3 and 4-4 the trailing edge being the thinner. The tool is operated by inserting a slate or asbestos cement plate into the slot and rotating the tool in a counterclockwise direction.
