[Class 37] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A resistance responsive to a variable such as temperature, pressure, flow, strain, &c. is connected in one arm of an A.C.-fed network automatically balanced by adjustment of a variable condenser in another arm. The network may be a single bridge network or the condenser may form an arm of one bridge, the output of which is balanced against that of a second bridge having the resistance in one arm. The outputs of a plurality of bridges having such a variable resistance arm may be balanced successively against the output of the bridge having the capacity adjusting arm, e.g. to measure successively the value of a variable such as strain at various positions in a structure. The detailed description is identical with part of that of Specification 646,981.
